Pair of Indian Raga Paintings
Pair of Indian miniature ragamala paintings in gilded frames. Watercolors heightened with gold. Ragamala literally means “garland of melodies.” Ragamala paintings deal with the varying moods and modes of classical music through highly imaginative forms and colors. Indian musicologists of the late medieval period converted the ragas into verse and then translated them into miniature paintings.
