Antique Folding Carved Ivory Hand-Painted Silk Fan

Carved ivory and hand-painted silk folding fan mounted on a dark purple velvet background in a mahogany frame.  The silk leaf is decorated with three medallions, one oval and two round, of finely painted putti in various pursuits separated by neoclassical figures on pedestals with putti attendants.  Interestingly, there is a female face at the top center of the leaf.  Possibly the owner?  The ornate ivory sticks are finely carved in tiny geometric patterns.  The outside guards are intricately carved with pagodas and floral designs. The craftsmanship is highly skilled in both the painting and the carving. The silk is marked 1873 in the center above the ivory sticks.
