Antique T-Form Equal Arm Scale
Antique T-form equal arm brass scale, the central shaft supporting the horizontal balance beam which holds the right shaped arm and flat platform, the left side holds the round pan held in place by three chains with a bell shaped weight at the top. The top of the central shaft is marked Parnall & Sons, Bristol; the support for the balance beam is marked Sutcliff & Sons, Manchester. Would be great as a display piece in an attorney’s office or even in the kitchen or study.
Equal arm scales are the oldest form of scale and can be traced back to 2400BC. You use this scale to measure unknown items against known weights. It had different sizes of apothecary weights as measurement standards.
