Campaign Military Folding Easel
Mahogany folding campaign easel with crossbar to support large canvases, two turned pegs and brass hinges. The three sections of the easel are hinged to fold in half for travel. When set up a hinge flips over to receive a twist catch to lock the two sections of each leg as one. A long hook is also locked into an eyelet at the top of the easel to ensure the two front legs sit at the correct angle to each other. A crossbar is then pushed through cut out holes to these two legs to further stabilize them and provide further support for a canvas. The back leg is also hinged and will fold out to a set angle to make the easel stand.
This type of easel was probably made for military use and would have been used for showing plans, charts and maps.
