Chinese Export Covered Tureen and Stand, Qianlong Style
A Chinese export covered tureen on stand from the Qianlong style is a refined example of 18th-century porcelain made for overseas markets, especially Europe. There are three parts; a deep bowl with gilded handles, a fitted domed cover with a gilded knob and a matching oval stand or undertray, shaped to catch drips and add elegance. It is decorated with elaborate hunting scenes of robed European figures on horseback with black and white spotted dogs leading the chase. In the background are castles, trees and flora. The neck and foot have decorative borders of a diaper pattern. The lid is decorated in the same style.
