Chinese Export Porcelain Punch Bowl

Large Chinese Export porcelain punch bowl with enamel polychrome colors and gilding, depicting the hongs at Canton and the flags of Britain, Denmark, Holland and France. The shoreline is crowded with people and Chinese chop boats. The inside is decorated with an elaborate border with the flag of Britain flying beside its hong and junks in the harbor.

Canton was the only port in China in the 18th century that western countries were allowed to trade.  The hongs were factories and they included living quarters and storage for the merchants.
