George III Mahogany Secretaire Bookcase, 18th Century English Antique
This secretaire has a classical arch-molded cornice with a central carved wheat sheath. Satinwood shell inlays are featured at the corners. There are two astragal-glazed doors that open to reveal three adjustable shelves. There is a false fronted secretaire drawer in the lower section which is fitted with satinwood veneered pigeon holes and drawers. A fine brown gilt-tooled leather writing surface. Below are three long graduated drawers. The drawers have unusual replaced, but antique, gilded brasses. The piece is raised on splayed bracket feet.
