Large Staghorn Coral

Eye catching one of a kind piece of white staghorn coral from the Soloman Islands. It belongs to the genus Acropora and is found on reef flats and in lagoons in very shallow water in the western Indo-Pacific Ocean. This is a threatened species because it is particularly prone to bleaching, a process in which high sea temperatures or stress cause the coral to expel its zooxanthellae and turn white. It is highly sculptural and textured and would be a major focal point atop an antique console table, sideboard or on a pedestal to show it off.
