English Lipscombe Stoneware Vase, Circa 1860
Incredible large stoneware glazed vase with sponge decoration, salt-glazed applied ornaments of handles in the form of mythical beasts, bow and ribbon swags of floral designs, unmarked but made by the Lipscombe pottery company, London & Chesterfield.
Lipscombe & Co., a London firm, was renowned for its water filters. The company was acquired by James Dearson of the Whittington Pottery, Derbyshire, who merged it with the Derbyshire pottery in 1884.
