Pair Antique Chinese Imari Export "Lady with Parasol" Plates
A pair of Chinese export porcelain plates “La Dame Au Parasol” after the drawing by Cornelius Pronk, a Dutchman. The plates are decorated with an elegant lady feeding the shore birds with her attendant holding a parasol over her head, with bull rushes in the background, in Imari colors of iron red, underglaze blue and partial gilding, enclosed by a narrow inner border of stylized flowers, surrounded by a wide outer border of shield shapes enclosing figures and birds. The backs of the plates are decorated with charming insects in blue. This design was originally commissioned by the Dutch East India Company.
