Pair of Chinese Clobbered Squat Jars, Circa 1800

Pair of Chinese clobbered small ginger jars enameled with gilding, red dragons, a figure with fishing pole, fish in the river, pagodas and mountains in the background with butterflies, flowers and trees.

Since there was a high demand for polychrome wares in the 18th century, blue and white Chinese porcelain was sent to the Netherlands to be over-painted.  Once there, the porcelain was repainted and then refired and the colors became permanent. The original blue and white designs are still under the enamel.
