Pair of Samson Vases Lamped, Circa 1880
Pair of Samson porcelain baluster-shaped vase lamps on original antique Chinese pierced wooden stands. The body is ribbed and decorated in famille rose colors in the English Lowestoft style.
Edmé Samson opened his ceramics firm Samson, Edmé et Cie in Paris in 1845 with the intention of supplying reproductions of ceramics to museums and private collections. He made reproductions in every conceivable style whether English, French, Italian, Spanish, Islamic, Chinese, etc. The firm did not set out to produce copies with the intention to deceive, but many of its products have been passed off as originals. Now Samson is highly collectible.
