Pair Venetian Brass Gondola Seahorse Lamps

A pair of Venetian cast brass gondola seahorse or hippocampus shaped lamps mounted on a mahogany stepped base with gilded molding.  The oblong shades are pleated and have a narrow gold trim at the bottom.

The decorative elements of the Gondola are steeped in tradition, these sculptural figures form part of the gunwale decoration of the passenger quarters. They sit on the side near the middle of the gondola and were used as mooring mounts.
