Regency Mahogany Fold Over Card, Tea or Games Table
Antique Regency mahogany fold over card, tea, games or console table with D-shaped ends, the hinged top with a reeded edge opens to reveal the solid mahogany playing surface, the apron centered by a very unusual satinwood and brass inlaid shield. The table opens with a double gate leg action which swing out to support the top standing on four elegant legs. The legs are turned and reeded which end with brass casters.
The origin of the tea table dates back to the 18th Century and they were used for a variety of purposes. They were placed against the wall and when needed the butler would place the table in the center of the room and prepare it for tea, playing cards or other games that were popular at the time.
