Regency Rosewood Brass Inlaid Lap Desk
Regency rosewood lap desk or military campaign writing slope with brass inlaid mounted edges, flush mounted brass recessed handles, top shield, escutcheon shield and stringing all around. The top has a removable reading ledge and can be stored inside if not used, the hinged top opens to lie flat creating a slope with royal blue gilt-tooled leather writing surface, a brass bar on the side flips up to keep the top tilted for reading or for use as a lectern, compartments for inks, pens and pencils, each leather covered side flips up to reveal storage below. There is a crafty spring which when released opens a secret compartment with two tiny drawers. It retains the original key. The quality of this box is exceptional.
