Set Four Framed Mushroom Chromolithographs, Circa 1890
“Les Champignons Comestibles et Les Especes Veneneuses.” Mushrooms drawn from nature by Fritz Leuba. Chromolithographs by H.Furrer, published Neuchatel, 1890. Leuba was a Swiss pharmacist, mycologist and artist. Mycology is the study of fungi, including their genetic and biochemical properties, their taxonomy and their use to humans as a source for medicine, food, as well as their dangers, such as poisoning or infection. He published his work in 1890 based on field observations as a guide to distinguishing poisonous mushrooms from edible ones. The frame is handmade of creased silk with 22 carat gold leaf sight edge with a hand-painted double-mount.
