The Librarian or Scholar on Library Steps Bookends

These Art Deco bookends, made by J. B. Hirsch Foundry, depict a scholar sitting on a step ladder reading a book against library shelves stacked with books. They consist of a white metal or patinated spelter. The heads are celluloid to imitate ivory. The whole is mounted on a polished green marble base. Both backs have the initials JBH.
